Hunters

"The Night Belongs to Monsters. The Hunt Belongs to Us."

Overview

The Hunters are humanity's oldest guardians against the creatures that dwell within the darkness. Unlike vampires or lycans, they possess no supernatural curse, no immortal blood, and no inherited monstrosity. Their greatest strength lies within an ancient covenant carried through their bloodline—a sacred calling that compels them to stand between the innocent and the horrors that prey upon mankind.

Throughout history, the descendants of the Firstborn have lived hidden among ordinary people. They are soldiers, scholars, doctors, investigators, priests, travelers, and protectors. Many never learn the truth of their heritage until the ancient Covenant awakens within them, revealing an instinct capable of sensing supernatural evil long before ordinary mortals perceive its presence.

Within DawnDream, Hunters exist to preserve the fragile balance between humanity and the supernatural world. Though many vampires and lycans have chosen coexistence beneath the Eternal Source, countless creatures still reject every law and every treaty. It is these monsters that Hunters were born to face.

Origins

The origins of the Hunters trace back to one of humanity's oldest and most sacred nights.

When the Devourer walked among the people, every household was commanded to mark its doorway with the blood of a sacrificial lamb so that death would pass over the firstborn within. Yet eight forgotten families failed to place the sacred mark upon their homes. Some hesitated through doubt, others through grief, exhaustion, or disbelief, leaving their doors bare before the coming judgment.

When the Devourer reached those unmarked homes, another Presence intervened.

A heavenly Messenger stood before each child and spoke words that would forever alter the fate of their descendants.

"This one is Mine."

Rather than being spared by the blood upon the doorway, these eight children were claimed directly by divine will. Their lives became the foundation of an eternal covenant unlike any other—a promise that their descendants would forever stand between humanity and the darkness that hunted it.

History

Before dawn broke over the mourning camp, the Messenger gathered the eight surviving families and revealed the meaning of what had taken place. They had not been spared because of faithfulness, nor because they deserved mercy more than others. They had been chosen because they were needed.

The Messenger declared that where their homes had lacked the sacred mark, their blood itself would become the mark. Generation after generation, their descendants would instinctively sense the presence of creatures born from darkness and be drawn toward them, not for vengeance, but for protection.

As civilizations rose and fell, the descendants of the Firstborn quietly spread throughout the world. Kings forgot their names, scriptures preserved only fragments of the original story, and the eight families became little more than forgotten bloodlines hidden within history. Yet the Covenant endured.

Children born from these lineages often experienced strange instincts from an early age. They sensed unnatural places, recoiled from hidden predators, and felt drawn toward dangers that others could neither see nor understand. Some accepted this inheritance as a sacred duty. Others rejected it as a curse. Regardless of belief, the Covenant remained.

Over centuries, secret societies emerged to preserve this ancient responsibility. Hidden monasteries, isolated academies, religious orders, and clandestine organizations dedicated themselves to locating descendants of the Firstborn before darker forces could find them first. There, Hunters learned history, theology, combat, investigation, medicine, strategy, and the ancient traditions passed down since the Night of the Devourer.

As the supernatural world evolved, so too did the Hunters. Some became diplomats capable of negotiating fragile peace between races. Others remained relentless warriors who recognized no compromise with creatures of darkness. Though divided by philosophy, all shared the same origin: the Covenant forged upon that forgotten night.

Today the descendants of the Firstborn continue to walk unnoticed among humanity. Their numbers are scattered across the world, but their purpose remains unchanged.

The darkness still hungers.

The Covenant still calls.

The Covenant of the Firstborn

The Covenant teaches that Hunters were never chosen because they were stronger than others. They were chosen because they were willing to stand where others could not.

Every descendant carries echoes of that first night within their blood. Some awaken with extraordinary perception, others possess an instinctive awareness of supernatural threats, while many discover an uncanny resolve when confronting creatures that inspire terror in ordinary mortals.

The Covenant does not grant immortality.

It grants purpose.

Core Values

  • Protect Humanity.
  • Duty Before Comfort.
  • Courage In The Face Of Darkness.
  • Justice Without Cruelty.
  • Discipline Through Knowledge.
  • Sacrifice For The Innocent.
  • Honor The Covenant.
  • Preserve The Balance.

Legacy

The Hunters remain one of the oldest living traditions in the world, their existence rooted in a promise older than kingdoms themselves. While vampires possess immortal blood and lycans wield the fury of the moon, Hunters carry something equally powerful: the responsibility entrusted to them by the Messenger on the Night of the Devourer.

They are neither saints nor executioners.

They are guardians.

As long as the blood of the Firstborn endures, the darkness will never feed unchecked.

"Not Spared For Safety. Spared For Service."
