Raven Companion

File:RavenCompanionBanner.png

"Bound by blood. Forged in the night. Raised for the hunt."

Overview

The Raven Companion is an exclusive familiar created for Vampires in DawnDream. More than a cosmetic companion, the Raven is a complete progression system connected to its Vampire owner's blood.

A Raven can grow from Level 1 to Level 10, restore Blood, develop affection toward its owner, experience different moods, participate in blood rituals, search for valuable Blood Gems, learn special combat powers, and encounter the Ravens of other Vampires during hunts.

As the Raven grows, it becomes stronger, more reliable, and increasingly capable in both support and combat. The relationship between Vampire and Raven is also represented through the Blood Bond, a special connection strengthened through blood rituals.

Raising a powerful Raven requires time, care, resources, and dedication. :contentReference[oaicite:0]{index=0}

Obtaining Your Raven

A Vampire can obtain a Raven through a Raven Claim object found within the DawnDream world.

  • Touch a Raven Claim.
  • The Raven costs L$800.
  • You choose your Raven's name during its creation.
  • After claiming your Raven, wear the Raven HUD to access its systems and controls.

The Raven HUD becomes the central interface through which you interact with and manage your familiar. :contentReference[oaicite:1]{index=1}

The Raven HUD

The Raven HUD displays important information about your companion and provides access to its primary actions.

The interface includes:

  • A circular Stamina Bar surrounding the Raven icon.
  • A visual status indicator showing whether the Raven is sleeping, playing, or in its normal state.
  • Three Power Slots displaying the combat abilities currently equipped.

Main HUD Functions

Function Description
HEAL Commands the Raven to restore Blood to its Vampire owner.
BLESSING Performs a blood blessing that revives the Vampire.
PET Pets the Raven, influencing its Affection and Mood.
DARK PACT Performs a blood ritual between Vampire and Raven. It can cure the Sick mood and increases Blood Bond and fill Raven's stamina.
VISION Activates Raven Vision and scans the surroundings for Solomonic Velarium.
BLOODWING Commands the Raven to heal another Vampire from a distance.
HUNT Sends the Raven on a Blood Gem Hunt.
SCOUT Reveals other Ravens currently hunting within the same region.
STATUS / Self Scan Displays detailed information about your Raven.

Raven Statistics

Every Raven has its own statistics, which develop as the familiar progresses.

Statistic Range Description
Level 1–10 Increased through EXP earned from healing and hunting.
Maximum Stamina 100–1000 ml Maximum Stamina is calculated as Level × 100.
Healing Power 500–1400 ml Starts at 500 ml and increases by 100 ml with each Level.
Healing Failure Chance 40% → 5% The chance of failure decreases as the Raven's Level increases.
Affection 0–100 Increased through interactions such as PET and successful HEAL actions, and may decrease through negative conditions.
EXP Requirement Increasing progression curve Level progression becomes progressively more demanding, ranging from 100 to 5000 EXP across the progression system.

Healing Stamina Cost

Healing consumes a percentage of the Raven's maximum Stamina.

  • Levels 1–4: 50% of maximum Stamina per heal.
  • Levels 5–9: 33% of maximum Stamina per heal.
  • Level 10: 25% of maximum Stamina per heal.

Higher-level Ravens are therefore not only stronger healers, but also more efficient when using their healing abilities.

Mood System

Ravens possess their own emotional state. Mood can influence their abilities, hunting performance, and interactions with their owner.

Mood Effect
Neutral Standard state with no special bonus or penalty.
Happy Blood Gem Hunts are 15% faster.
Annoyed Applies a minor penalty.
Angry Prevents the use of Dark Pact and increases hunting duration.
Sad Can result from fleeing from or losing a confrontation.
Sick Blocks Raven actions. Dark Pact is used to cure this condition, with a 50% chance of becoming Happy and a 50% chance of becoming Neutral.
Tired Caused by exhaustion.

A Raven becomes Sick after three consecutive failures involving healing, Blessing, or Bloodwing. :contentReference[oaicite:2]{index=2}

Blood Bond

The Blood Bond represents the supernatural connection between a Vampire and their Raven.

Blood Bond ranges from 0 to 100 and increases by +1 point for every successful Dark Pact.

As the bond grows stronger, the Raven receives an automatic bonus to its combat power during Raven confrontations.

Blood Bond Tier Bond Range Combat Bonus
Weak 0–19 +1%
Forming 20–39 +2%
Strong 40–59 +3%
Deep 60–79 +4%
Profound 80–99 +5%
Unbreakable 100 +6%

The stronger the Blood Bond, the stronger the Raven becomes during combat.

Warning: If a Raven dies, its owner loses 40 Blood Bond points, regardless of whether the death occurred through a normal defeat or an instant-kill ability. :contentReference[oaicite:3]{index=3}

Raven Bed

The Raven Bed is a shared rezzable object. A Vampire may use another player's Raven Bed with their own familiar.

The Raven can sleep for up to 1 hour. After completing its sleep, the Raven recovers 100% of its Stamina. :contentReference[oaicite:4]{index=4}

Raven Vision

Raven Vision activates a supernatural scan around the Vampire.

The ability reveals nearby presences associated with the Solomonic Velarium, using the same underlying concept found in other DawnDream scanning systems.

Bloodwing

Bloodwing allows a Raven to restore Blood to another Vampire from a distance.

This makes the Raven useful not only as a personal companion, but also as a support familiar capable of assisting wounded Vampire allies. :contentReference[oaicite:5]{index=5}

Blood Gem Hunt

The Blood Gem Hunt is one of the central progression activities of the Raven system.

Blood Gems are valuable resources used to purchase Raven combat powers. A Vampire can send their Raven flying through the current region in search of these gems.

Hunting Duration

Hunting becomes faster as the Raven increases in Level.

Raven Level Approximate Hunt Duration
Level 1 Approximately 16 minutes
Level 10 Approximately 8 minutes

Mood can modify this duration:

  • Happy: 15% faster.
  • Angry: 30% longer.

Possible Hunt Outcomes

A Blood Gem Hunt can have several outcomes.

  • SUCCESS — The Raven returns with Blood Gems. The amount is based on its Level, ranging from its current Level up to Level +1, with a maximum of 10.
  • STORM — A storm interferes with the expedition, shortening the hunt but providing no reward.
  • FAIL — The Raven finds nothing and returns without a reward.

The chance of success increases from approximately 40% at Level 1 to 85% at Level 10. The chance of encountering a storm decreases from approximately 20% to 3% as the Raven develops.

There is also a 15% chance of encountering another bird during the journey. This adds a small delay to the Raven's return but has no additional mechanical consequence. :contentReference[oaicite:6]{index=6}

Raven Confrontations

Blood Gem hunting carries another danger: other Ravens.

If a Raven belonging to a Vampire from a different Clan is hunting within the same region at the same time, there is a 90% chance that the two Ravens will encounter one another.

Ravens belonging to members of the same Clan never fight each other.

Choosing Whether to Attack

When an encounter occurs, the owner receives a dialog informing them that their Raven has discovered another Raven in the darkness.

The Vampire can choose:

  • ATTACK — Initiates the confrontation and applies the calculated battle result.
  • LET IT GO — The encounter is abandoned. Neither Raven suffers consequences and the hunt continues normally.

If no choice is made within 5 minutes, the opportunity expires automatically and is treated as letting the rival Raven go.

If the attacked Raven's owner is online and within the region, their HUD also displays the battle narration and result. :contentReference[oaicite:7]{index=7}

Raven Combat Power

The strength of a Raven during hunting confrontations is calculated using several factors:

  • Level × 10
  • Current Stamina percentage
  • Bonuses provided by equipped Raven Powers
  • Blood Bond bonus ranging from +1% to +6%

A Raven's strength therefore depends not only on Level, but also on its condition, learned abilities, equipment, and relationship with its Vampire owner.

Possible Battle Outcomes

Result Consequence
Normal Victory The winning Raven receives +5 EXP and steals 50% of the Blood Gems the rival would have received from that hunt.
Normal Defeat The defeated Raven loses everything from that hunt, its Stamina falls to 0, and its Mood becomes Sad.
Escape The weaker Raven escapes before the true battle begins. It avoids severe consequences but becomes Sad.
Hitkill — Deathwing Deathwing provides a 5% chance of instantly killing the opposing Raven regardless of Level or Stamina.

A Raven that suffers a true defeat rather than escaping dies and must be revived before it can be used again. :contentReference[oaicite:8]{index=8}

Battle Narration

Raven battles are narrated through the system.

During a normal confrontation, the narration describes the exchange of attacks and identifies equipped powers by name. Variations are used so that battles do not always read identically.

Depending on how many abilities each Raven has equipped, a confrontation may be narrated over anything from several seconds to approximately 2 minutes.

Escapes and instant kills use shorter and more direct narration.

Raven Powers

Raven combat abilities are purchased with Blood Gems through the Power Stone.

A Raven can equip a maximum of 3 Powers at the same time.

Minimum Level Power Cost Category Effect
1 Talon Rend 200 Blood Gems Attack +15 Combat Power
2 Nightfall Strike 300 Blood Gems Attack +25 Combat Power when your Raven initiates the battle
3 Bloodfeud Strike 400 Blood Gems Attack +20 Combat Power
3 Carrion Feast 100 Blood Gems Recovery Restores 25% of maximum Stamina after winning a battle
4 Deathwing 500 Blood Gems Hitkill 5% chance to instantly kill the opposing Raven
4 Hoarder's Talon 400 Blood Gems Greed Steals 75% of the rival Raven's Blood Gems after victory instead of the usual 50%
4 Raven's Spite 500 Blood Gems Vengeance When defeated, steals 1–2 Blood Gems from the victorious Raven
5 Shadowfeather Veil 600 Blood Gems Defense Reduces the rival Raven's Combat Power by 15%
6 Stunning Talon 800 Blood Gems Stun 50% chance to prevent the opposing Raven from escaping
8 Ironfeather Ward 1000 Blood Gems Defense Reduces the rival Raven's Combat Power by 20%
9 Unbroken Wing 1100 Blood Gems Survival 40% chance to survive a killing blow, including Deathwing, returning with 1 Stamina
10 Raven's Fury 1200 Blood Gems Attack +40 Combat Power

Higher-level powers require substantially greater investment, making a fully trained and equipped Raven a long-term achievement.

Scout

Scout allows a Vampire to gather information before or during Raven hunting activity.

Using Scout costs 15 Stamina and reveals the names of all Ravens currently hunting within the same region.

Scout provides information only. It does not automatically initiate combat and may reveal both friendly and rival Ravens. :contentReference[oaicite:10]{index=10}

Raven Death

A Raven can die when it suffers a true defeat during a Raven confrontation. Escaping from combat does not count as death.

When a Raven dies:

  • Its status becomes DEAD.
  • HEAL, PET, HUNT, and other Raven actions become unavailable.
  • The owner loses 40 Blood Bond points.

The Raven remains unusable until it is restored through the Raven Revival system.

Raven Revival Altar

A dead Raven can be brought back through the Raven Revival Altar.

To restore the Raven, touch the altar and complete the revival.

Revival Cost: 3 Amrita

After revival:

  • The Raven returns with 30% Stamina.
  • Its Mood is reset to Neutral.
  • The Raven can once again interact with its Vampire and participate in Raven activities.

Death therefore has meaningful consequences, but it does not permanently destroy the companion. :contentReference[oaicite:11]{index=11}

Raven System Items

Several objects form part of the complete Raven Companion system.

Item Function Availability
Raven Claim Creates your Raven for the first time for L$ 800. Objects placed within the DawnDream world
Raven HUD Main control interface for the Raven system. Received when claiming a Raven
Raven Bed Restores 100% Stamina after one hour of sleep. Shared rezzable object
Raven Toy Allows Vampires to play with their own Ravens. Shared rezzable object
Power Stone Allows Raven combat powers to be purchased and equipped. Rezzable object
Raven Revival Altar Revives a dead Raven for 3 Amrita. Fixed world object
Raven HUD Chest Provides the Raven HUD to eligible living Vampires who already own a Raven. Fixed world object

Raven Progression

The Raven Companion is designed as a long-term progression system rather than a companion that immediately begins at full strength.

The basic progression journey is:

  1. Claim your Raven for L$800.
  2. Heal yourself and other Vampires to earn EXP and increase its Level.
  3. Send your Raven on repeated Blood Gem Hunts.
  4. Collect Blood Gems and use them to purchase combat powers.
  5. Equip up to 3 Raven Powers.
  6. Strengthen your Blood Bond through Dark Pact.
  7. Encounter, fight, or avoid other Ravens during hunts.
  8. If your Raven dies, revive it at the Raven Revival Altar for 3 Amrita and continue its journey.

A Raven's power is therefore the result of several interconnected systems: Level, Experience, Stamina, Mood, Affection, Blood Bond, Blood Gems, learned Powers, and equipped Powers. :contentReference[oaicite:12]{index=12}

The Bond Between Vampire and Raven

The Raven is not intended to exist separately from its owner. Its development reflects the time and attention invested by the Vampire who raised it.

A newly claimed Raven may still be inexperienced, unreliable, and vulnerable. Over time, however, it can become a powerful healer, hunter, fighter, and supernatural familiar.

Care for it.

Train it.

Feed the bond through blood.

Send it into the darkness.

Let it hunt.

Let it fight.

And when it falls, bring it back.

The night belongs to the Vampire. The skies belong to the Raven.
