Overview

The Serpens Aeternum traces its origins to an archaic order of magi, alchemists, scholars, and occult philosophers whose purpose was to protect mankind from the horrors that stalked the darkness. Once known as the Ordo Serpensi, the order devoted itself to studying the unknown rather than fearing it, believing that knowledge alone could preserve civilization against the creatures of the night.

Yet the pursuit of forbidden truth rarely ends without consequence.

Over countless centuries, the Order abandoned its original ideals, corrupted not by greed or conquest, but by an insatiable desire to understand the abyss itself. The catastrophe that followed reshaped the organization forever, giving birth to the modern Serpens Aeternum—a secretive society whose members pursue knowledge that even the eldest immortals hesitate to utter.

Today the clan stands not merely as rulers or warriors, but as collectors of hidden truths, manipulators of kingdoms, and keepers of ancient mysteries. Their influence is rarely seen, but almost always felt.

History

Unlike many ancient clans, the origins of Serpens Aeternum are absent from the chronicles of vampires and immortals alike. Their story began not with creatures of the night, but with mortals.

The original order, known as Imperii Serpentis Noct, was founded during mankind's earliest civilizations by scholars, engineers, alchemists, physicians, and spellweavers who sought to understand the dangers hidden beyond the light of civilization. Drawing upon forgotten Mesopotamian tablets, eastern manuscripts, and countless forbidden texts, they identified three primordial threats to humanity: Diabola, the abyssal corruption; Vampiri, the immortal predators; and Lycos, the cursed beasts of the wild.

While much of the Order's research concerning the Diabola has been lost to history, their investigations into vampires and lycans advanced rapidly. They captured specimens, studied immortal blood, and experimented with alchemical compounds designed to combat the growing darkness.

Everything changed with the arrival of a mysterious traveler known as Ghar Halu'Haqim. Claiming origins beyond the known deserts and carrying knowledge unlike anything the Order had encountered, Ghar introduced revolutionary theories concerning Diablori, immortality, and the possibility of harnessing the gifts of the night rather than simply destroying them.

His teachings transformed the Order.

No longer content with resisting darkness, they sought to master it.

For over a century the Order gathered impossible ingredients, refined forgotten alchemical practices, and prepared a chosen vessel capable of surviving an experiment unlike any before it. Following Ghar's final decree, the Order launched a desperate assault against an Elder Tzimisce, sacrificing nearly half their members to obtain a single crystal vial of ancient vitae.

Within a hidden mountain sanctuary, the ritual was finally performed.

What emerged was neither man nor vampire.

It was something new.

The experiment succeeded only in the cruelest sense. The newly awakened being immediately slaughtered the surviving members of the Order in a frenzy of blood and instinct, leaving behind a circle of carnage that forever transformed the philosophy of those who endured.

Within that endless cycle of consumption and rebirth, they recognized the ancient symbol of the Ouroboros—the serpent that devours itself to become eternal.

From the ashes of the Ordo Serpensi rose the Serpens Aeternum.

No longer hunters of darkness, they became its shepherds.

Rather than destroying humanity, they chose to cultivate it, guiding kingdoms from the shadows, harvesting knowledge, influence, and power with patient precision. Every conspiracy, every whispered secret, every carefully orchestrated conflict serves a purpose known only to those who sit within the Triarch.

Legacy

The true ambitions of the Serpens Aeternum remain known only to the mysterious Triarch, whose members govern the countless Houses that form the coils of the Eternal Serpent. Though each pursues their own schemes and ambitions, all ultimately work toward a singular vision that has endured since the destruction of the ancient Order.

To outsiders, the people living beneath their influence know nothing of the machinery quietly guiding their fate. Kingdoms rise and fall, rulers gain power or vanish into obscurity, and entire generations unknowingly become pieces within plans spanning centuries.

Above all else, the Serpens Aeternum continues its endless search for the forgotten art of Distillation—the mythical process through which the strength of many may be concentrated into one perfect vessel. They believe this ancient secret will one day give birth to the prophesied Great Serpent, the final expression of the Ouroboros and the culmination of every sacrifice made since the fall of the Ordo Serpensi.

The serpent consumes. The serpent endures. The serpent becomes eternal.
